Debutant Beaubier Reflects on Race 2

American MotoAmerica Championship reigning Champ on his WorldSBK debut

Cameron Beaubier arrived at Donington Park with a lot to learn, and the American learned quickly. After a more difficult first practice on Friday, MotoAmerica rider – in for Sylvain Guintoli at Pata Yamaha until the Frenchman returns to action in Misano – pulled some big improvements out the bag to get direct entry into Tissot-Superpole 2.

“I had a lot of fun this weekend,” said Beaubier. “I feel like the Pata Yamaha Team and I worked well together. I learned a ton, too – tyres, new bike, new track…I think crashing out on the first lap yesterday and losing that time really hurt me more today than I thought it was going to.”

Beaubier went straight into the top ten on his debut before unfortunately ending Race 1 earlier than desired after losing the Yamaha on the first lap. Race 2 however saw the American rider cross the line in the top ten as he pushed hard to keep up with the steep learning curve.

“I feel like if I had another go tomorrow I would have been able to do a lot better, but that’s racing. I think MotoAmerica has prepared me really well but the depth here is really amazing, there’s all the best riders from all the best Championships around the world racing against each other so it’s never going to be easy when that’s the case!”

The American wished his colleague Sylvain Guintoli well for his comeback – expected to be at Misano – and goes back to MotoAmerica as reigning Champion with more experience under his belt.
